Overview

RenterRights LLC ("RenterRights," "we," "us," or "our") operates the RenterRights web application (the "Service") at your current location. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service.

By using RenterRights, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not use the Service.

1. Information we collect

We collect only the minimum information necessary to provide the Service. This falls into two categories:

• Information you provide directly: When you describe your tenant situation — including selecting an issue type (e.g., security deposit, repairs, eviction) and optionally entering a free-text description of your situation — that text is sent to our server to generate a legal analysis. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or any identifying information to use the core features of the Service.
• Technical information collected automatically: Like most web services, our servers automatically collect certain technical information when you visit, including your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URLs, and the pages you visit within the Service. This information is used for security monitoring, debugging, and understanding general usage patterns.

We do not collect or store the content of the legal analyses or demand letters generated for you beyond what is described in the Data Retention section below.

2. How we use your information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

• To provide the Service: The text you enter describing your situation is transmitted to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate a legal analysis and demand letter tailored to your situation under Texas law.
• To operate and improve the Service: Aggregate, anonymized usage data (such as which issue types are selected most frequently) helps us understand how the Service is used and where we can improve it.
• For security and fraud prevention: Technical log data helps us identify and prevent abuse, unauthorized access, and other security issues.
• To comply with legal obligations: We may use or disclose your information as required by applicable law, regulation, or legal process.

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles based on your use of the Service.

3. How we share your information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We may share your information only in the following limited circumstances:

• AI service provider (Anthropic): The text you enter to describe your situation is sent to Anthropic's API to generate the legal analysis and demand letter. Anthropic processes this data according to their own privacy policy and API terms of service. We encourage you not to include sensitive personal information (such as your full name, Social Security number, or financial account numbers) in the free-text description field.
• Service providers: We may share technical information with trusted third-party vendors who help us operate the Service (such as cloud hosting providers), under confidentiality agreements and only to the extent necessary.
• Legal requirements: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we believe in good faith that such disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of RenterRights LLC, our users, or the public.
• Business transfers: If RenterRights LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will provide notice before your information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

4. Data retention

RenterRights is designed to be stateless. We do not maintain a database of the tenant situations you describe or the legal analyses generated for you. Each session is independent and we do not link requests to individual users over time.

Server access logs (containing IP addresses and request metadata) are retained for up to 90 days for security and operational purposes, after which they are deleted.

Anthropic may retain API request data in accordance with their own data retention policies. Please review Anthropic's privacy policy for details.

5. Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include HTTPS encryption for all data in transit, server-side API key management (your Anthropic API calls are made server-side, not from your browser), and access controls on our infrastructure.

However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. You use the Service at your own risk.

We recommend that you do not include highly sensitive personal information — such as Social Security numbers, bank account details, or full legal names — in the free-text description field when describing your situation.

6. Cookies and tracking

RenterRights uses only essential technical mechanisms necessary for the Service to function. We do not use third-party advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or behavioral analytics tools.

Your browser may store information locally (such as session state) to support the single-page application experience. This data remains on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.

7. Third-party services

The Service integrates with the following third-party services:

• Anthropic (AI provider): Processes the text you enter to generate legal analyses and demand letters. Subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy at anthropic.com/privacy.
• Google Fonts: We use Google Fonts to display typography. Google may collect technical information when fonts are loaded. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy at policies.google.com/privacy.

We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third-party services. We encourage you to review their respective privacy policies.

8. Children's privacy

The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us using the information below. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information.

9. Your rights

Because RenterRights does not require account creation and does not maintain a persistent database of user-identifiable information, most traditional data rights (such as access, correction, or deletion requests) are not applicable in the conventional sense — there is no account or profile to access or delete.

However, you may contact us at any time to:

• Ask questions about how your information is handled
• Request information about what data, if any, may be associated with your IP address in our server logs
• Request deletion of server log entries associated with your IP address (subject to applicable legal retention requirements)

If you are a California resident, you may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Please contact us for more information.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
